A beginner-friendly leather wallet with a distinctive hardware-free closure

Create a compact everyday-carry wallet with the Waypoint Tuckline Wallet, an original leathercraft pattern from Old Line Crafts & Designs.

Designed for newer leatherworkers but useful enough for experienced makers, the Tuckline combines a practical main pocket, a curved quick-access card pocket, and an integrated leather closure system in a clean, compact design.

Instead of snaps, rivets, magnets, or other hardware, a centered leather tab folds over the top of the wallet and slips beneath a stitched keeper strip on the front. The result is a distinctive wallet that is simple to build, comfortable to carry, and easy to personalize.

Simple construction. Useful everyday carry.

The Waypoint Tuckline Wallet was designed around a straightforward three-piece construction that keeps the project approachable for beginners.

The folded main body creates the primary storage pocket for additional cards or folded cash. A separate curved front pocket gives you quick access to the card you use most often, while the narrow keeper strip secures the integrated tuck tab without requiring any metal hardware.

Because there are no snaps or rivets to install, this is an excellent project for makers who are ready to move beyond basic card holders without taking on a complicated wallet build.

What makes the Tuckline different

The defining feature of the Tuckline is its hardware-free closure. The leather itself provides the closure mechanism, giving the wallet a clean appearance while eliminating the need for snaps, magnets, Chicago screws, or rivets.

Its compact horizontal shape works well for everyday carry, and the simple construction provides plenty of opportunities to experiment with leather color, thread, edge finishing, stamping, tooling, or personalization.

The finished wallet is approximately 4.25 inches wide × 3.00 inches high and is intended for common cards and folded cash. Final capacity will vary depending on leather thickness and how much the leather stretches during use.

Designed for beginner leatherworkers

You do not need advanced tooling skills or specialized hardware to make the Tuckline. The basic version can be completed with common leathercraft tools, vegetable-tanned leather, adhesive, thread, and stitching tools.

The pattern includes reference stitch locations to help align the front pocket, main body, and keeper strip. For best results, assemble and temporarily secure the layers before making the final stitching holes through mating pieces.

Recommended materials

For the standard build, I recommend 3–4 oz vegetable-tanned leather with a firm or medium-firm temper. This provides enough structure for the tuck closure while keeping the finished wallet relatively slim.

A contrasting thread can highlight the shape of the wallet, while matching thread gives the finished project a quieter, more refined appearance. Edge beveling, sanding, burnishing, dyeing, antiquing, or conditioning can all be added depending on the final look you want.

Make it your own

The Tuckline is intentionally simple enough to serve as a blank canvas for customization. Add initials, a maker’s mark, a compass or trail-inspired stamp, a decorative border crease, contrasting thread, or a distressed finish.

Natural vegetable-tanned leather will develop its own patina with use, while dyed leather can give the same pattern an entirely different character. The pattern works equally well as an understated everyday wallet or as the foundation for a more personalized handmade piece.

A practical project for gifts or small-shop sales

A handmade wallet is useful, personal, and small enough to make from modest amounts of leather. That makes the Waypoint Tuckline a good project for birthdays, Father’s Day, graduations, holidays, groomsmen gifts, or everyday-carry enthusiasts.

Purchasers of this pattern may also sell finished physical Tuckline Wallets they personally make in small quantities. The digital pattern files themselves may not be copied, shared, uploaded, redistributed, or resold.

Important fit note

Card dimensions are fairly standardized, but leather thickness and temper vary considerably. The wallet is designed around common credit-card-sized cards and folded cash. Actual capacity will depend on the leather used and how the finished wallet breaks in.

For a commercial finished-product listing, I recommend making a physical prototype in your chosen leather before advertising a specific maximum card count.
